Cocks Crow: Solid as a rock

Defense.  That’s all you can say about last night’s win.  After the questions about the youth on the unit, it was freshman Stephon Gilmore who came up with the game-saving play.  What a feeling it was to be in the garnet-shaded crowd when that ball fell to the ground!   • Eric Norwood’s two sacks moved him past John Abraham on the all-time list at South Carolina.  He’s just two sacks behind Andrew Provence for the school record.  Norwood is also just 3.5 sacks away from being in the top ten all-time in the SEC.
  • Lowest yards allowed by the Gamecocks (133) since last year’s NC State game (138)
  • Gamecocks have won 10 straight season openers
  • Coach Spurrier is 19-1 in season openers
  • Last night’s game was the first time Patrick DiMarco had multiple carries in one game
  • In the first ten minutes of Devin Taylor’s collegiate career, he had a blocked punt and forced fumble.
