Cocks Crow: Labor Day

Through the first full week of competition, every South Carolina team that has played remains unbeaten. Here’s how our squads are doing:

  • Women’s soccer is 4-0 after winning the Cardinal Classic Tournament in Louisville, KY this weekend. The Gamecocks have not allowed a goal so far this season.
  • Men’s soccer is 2-0 and defeated Clemson on Friday night 1-0 on a goal from Sam Arthur. The win was the team’s third consecutive victory against the Tigers.
  • Volleyball is 6-0 after sweeping three straight teams in the Gamecock Invitational this weekend. The Gamecocks opened this season with a win against Clemson on the road.
  • Cross country won the Gamecock Invitational this weekend for the fourth time. The Gamecocks finished ahead of twelve other teams, including Clemson.
  • Football opened up its season on national television last Thursday, defeating N.C. State behind a record-setting defensive effort. The 133 yards allowed was the lowest ever by a Carolina defense in the Spurrier era.
