- Gamecock alum Kristy McPherson begins play today in the 11th Solheim Cup as one of 12 LPGA Tour players on the United States team facing a group of pros from Europe at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club in Sugar Grove, Ill. It is the first appearance in the international event for McPherson, a 2003 South Carolina graduate. The format for Thursday morning’s play is four-ball (best ball), with four matches starting at 9 a.m. Central time. - Four Gamecocks – three current, one former – will be teeing it up Monday morning in the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship in Tulsa, Okla. Sophomore Wesley Bryan and seniors Patrick Rada and Paul Woodbury, along with 2008 alum Mark Anderson, will all be competing in the amateur national championship at Southern Hills Country Club, site of the 2001 U.S. Open. Bryan and Anderson are still trying to gain one of the final two spots on the 2009 Walker Cup team, which is the amateur version of the Ryder Cup between the United States and Europe.
