Cocks Crow: Monday

Here’s your game recaps from Saturday night’s 38-16 win against Florida Atlantic:

The Gamecocks are back in action this Thursday night for their third national television broadcast of the season as they take on the No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available – visit GamecocksOnline.com or call 800-4SC-FANS to order.

Women’s soccer continued its unbeaten start to the season, defeating South Alabama 6-1 on Sunday to finish the non-conference portion of the season 8-0.  Men’s soccer picked up a 1-0 win against Northern Illinois on Sunday to move to 4-1-1.  Volleyball finished the weekend 1-1 to move to 9-2 overall, 1-1 in the SEC.  Cross country won the Winthrop Invitational over the weekend as well.

The Closer: Another Clemson Match-Up

Women’s soccer travels to Clemson tonight to face the Tigers in the Carolinas Cup at 7:30 p.m. The Gamecocks are unbeaten against the Tigers in all sports so far this season (volleyball, men’s soccer, cross country).

Men’s soccer is at home tonight in their first match of the adidas Gamecock Classic.  The Gamecocks play Butler at 7:30 p.m.

Cocks Crow: Labor Day

Through the first full week of competition, every South Carolina team that has played remains unbeaten. Here’s how our squads are doing:

  • Women’s soccer is 4-0 after winning the Cardinal Classic Tournament in Louisville, KY this weekend. The Gamecocks have not allowed a goal so far this season.
  • Men’s soccer is 2-0 and defeated Clemson on Friday night 1-0 on a goal from Sam Arthur. The win was the team’s third consecutive victory against the Tigers.
  • Volleyball is 6-0 after sweeping three straight teams in the Gamecock Invitational this weekend. The Gamecocks opened this season with a win against Clemson on the road.
  • Cross country won the Gamecock Invitational this weekend for the fourth time. The Gamecocks finished ahead of twelve other teams, including Clemson.
  • Football opened up its season on national television last Thursday, defeating N.C. State behind a record-setting defensive effort. The 133 yards allowed was the lowest ever by a Carolina defense in the Spurrier era.

The Week Ahead for the Garnet & Black

Tuesday

7 p.m. – Men’s soccer hosts UNC-Charlotte at Stone Stadium.  The game will be the “Battle of the Residence Halls” as the hall with the highest attendance at the game will be recognized on the video board and receive a pizza party at the end of the season.  The players and coaches will also be available after the conclusion of the game for an autograph session.

7 p.m. – Carolina Calls with Coach Spurrier at Wild Wings in the Vista.  Listen on the Gamecock Radio Network (click here for affiliates in your area) or online at GamecocksOnline.com

Thursday

7 p.m. – Football season finally kicks off as the Gamecocks travel to Raleigh, NC to face N.C. State.  The game will be nationally televised on ESPN and broadcast on the Gamecock Radio Network.

Friday

10 a.m. -Volleyball plays Eastern Kentucky to open the Gamecock Invitational at the Volleyball Competition Facility.

7 p.m. – Men’s soccer travels to the Upstate to face Clemson.

7 p.m. -Volleyball plays Coastal Carolina in its second match of the day.

7 p.m. -Cross country competes in their only home event of the season at Ft. Jackson in the 5K Gamecock Invitational.

7 p.m. – Women’s soccer will spend the weekend in Louisville, Kentucky competing in the Cardinal Classic.  The Gamecocks play host Louisville in their opening match.

Saturday

Noon -Volleyball plays its final game of the tournament against UNC-Greensboro.

Sunday

11 a.m. – Women’s soccer faces Cincinnati in their final game of the Cardinal Classic tournament.
